Eurolunch: Reading and discussion

Gesa Olkusz needs very little to tell the story of human loneliness – and to overcome it with the magical power of her language.<\/p>


A simple story, told poetically and crystal clear: Parker and Kasimir emigrated from Poland to the USA with their mother when they were boys, hoping to have a better life. After this feat of strength, their mother has lost all zest for life, and so the brothers have become two symbiotically bonded loners who make their way in a foreign country without ever feeling at home. Parker drives through the night as a private chauffeur, Casimir never leaves the house. When the vagabond Luzia moves in with them, she brings all her joie de vivre with her, but breaks up the brothers’ almost wordless closeness. But the young woman runs off to Panama, and it is clear that Kasimir must follow her, even if it means to the end of the world.
