She works hard as a geriatric caregiver, she drinks too much, and at some point she begins to see her son only as an adversary. Meanwhile, Marcin tries to figure out who he is and who he can be here in Germany through video games, nu metal, and poetry.\u202f Amid this tension, the two live both with and against each other. <br\/>It is not until late in life\u2014when the aging mother is seriously ill and Marcin is caring for her\u2014that the family history is revealed in its entirety. A life story that oscillates between anecdote and the abyss. The war is not over. There, Martin Piekar studied philosophy and history. While still a student, he was already a member of \u201csexyunderground,\u201d a Frankfurt-based group of young writers.
