As We Are \u2013 Plural Presents.\nWho Tells the Story of the East?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Who tells the story of the East\u2014and whose perspectives continue to shape our image of East Germany today?
For a long time, the history of German reunification was primarily framed as an East-West narrative. Other power dynamics\u2014such as racism, anti-Semitism, and sexism\u2014were often overlooked. The experiences of people with a migrant background, Black East Germans, the children of former contract workers, and other marginalized groups were rarely incorporated into the public memory. <\/p>

Nhi Le<\/strong>, Katharina Warda<\/strong>, and Marieke Reimann<\/strong> \u2014three influential voices of the post-Reunification generation in East Germany\u2014come together to expandthese narratives and reimagine them. They discuss East Germany as a pluralistic space of experience\u2014shaped by transformation, far-right and racist violence, but also by solidarity, democratic engagement, and resistance. Together, we will discuss which gaps still shape the debates about East Germany today, how the perspective on the post-reunification era changes when previously marginalized viewpoints take center stage, and what narratives a pluralistic, solidarity-based society needs today\u2014in the wake of reunification and following the elections. <\/p>

She is known as the host of ZAPP\u2014the media program on Norddeutscher Rundfunk. Previously, she wrote the column \u201cThe Female Gaze\u201d (2020\u201321) for the *S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung*. \n\t\t\t\t\t\tBorn in 1985 in Wernigerode, Saxony-Anhalt. She works as a sociologist and freelance writer on topics related to East Germany, racism, classism, and punk. She was a fellow at the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School for Literary Studies and earned her Ph.D. in Berlin with a dissertation on the resistance inherent in biographical narratives in diary blogs. In 2021, Katharina Warda served on the advisory board of \u201cKein Schlussstrich!\u201d, a nationwide theater project addressing the NSU complex. \t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
