Eniiyi is born on the same day that her aunt Monife is buried. Because of her uncanny resemblance to Monife, the family is certain that she is her reincarnation. The women in Eniiyi’s family have been unable to find peace for generations because they lose their beloved husbands. According to the Yoruba priestess Mama G, there is a curse at work that will be their undoing. The question remains: can at least Eniiyi escape the family curse and the mysterious fate that has befallen Monife? Oyinkan Braithwaite tells a highly original story about an all-female household, about things that are rational and things that we cannot explain. “The Curse of the Falodun Women” is laconic, funny, haunting and hypnotically captivating.
