Crazy Rich
What would you do with 1000 million euros? Julia Friedrich’s book “Crazy Rich” revolves around the secret world of the super-rich. The journalist has succeeded in doing something that has never been done before: she asks the super-rich for an interview, and they allow her extensive insights into their world and answer her questions. Is wealth a private matter? Do we need a different tax system? When do I have enough? On the trail of money, her research trip takes her to luxury yachts, family offices and tax havens. In conversation with academics and experts, Friedrichs unearths new data on the country’s wealthiest families: In this country, 3,300 people own 23 percent of all financial assets. Julia Friedrich will now be reading from her book at the Kleines Haus of Theater Bremen, followed by a discussion with Thomas Schwarzer, the consultant for social local politics: Do we need to set limits to wealth? What degree of inequality can a community, a democracy, tolerate in which, at least in theory, every vote should be worth the same? How much can individuals claim for themselves in a world where resources are finite?
