Eva Illouz receives the Aby Warburg Prize of the City of Hamburg
We congratulate this year’s global° guest Eva Illouz on winning the Aby Warburg Prize of the City of Hamburg.
Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media Hamburg, commentsWith the Aby Warburg Prize, we are honoring three intellectuals, one prizewinner and one namesake, who deal with our cultural and social coexistence, our values, images and emotions. Eva Illouz in particular repeatedly takes a stand on current issues. She insists that the ideas of mindfulness, respect and recognition must apply without restriction and that solidarity only develops fully when it is shown not only to one’s own group, but also to others. It thus also defends the achievements of modernity that are currently threatening to slip between our fingers. With the award ceremony, we not only want to honor the academic achievements of the honorees, but also thank them for their attitude and their contribution to the public debate.”
