Georg Dehio Culture Award 2023 for Gedankendach Center

We congratulate our friend Oxana Matiychuk from the Gedankendach Center in Chernivtsi for the Georg Dehio Culture Award 2023!

The seven-member jury selected the Gedankendach Center as the winner of the main prize. The explanatory memorandum states:

“This year, the jury awards the main prize to the “Gedankendach Center” in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, which has been in existence since 2009 and is dedicated to the preservation of the cultural heritage of Bukovina as well as to scientific and cultural exchange between Western Ukraine and German-speaking countries. With its outstanding art and cultural projects, the Gedankendach Center forms an important platform for the preservation and communication of German-language cultural heritage. As an “umbrella” for three institutions at the National Yuri Fedkovych University of Chernivtsi, it has contributed to cross-border networking, the strength of which has been demonstrated even after the Russian war of aggression began. For example, numerous humanitarian aid actions of the Gedankendach Center and its partners support mainly internally displaced persons in Ukraine. The way in which highly qualified cultural mediation work is combined with intensive social commitment convinced the jury to vote for the Gedankendach Center out of a large number of entries worthy of an award.”
