Hans-Christian Petersen

He is a research associate at the Federal Institute for Culture and History of Eastern Europe (BKGE) and a lecturer at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg.
His research focuses on Russian-German history, the post-(eastern) migrant present and the history of German “Ostforschung”.
His habilitation project dealt with the social spaces of the urban lower classes in the Russian metropolis of St. Petersburg. In 2024, the book Antiosteuropean Racism in Germany, co-authored with Jannis Panagiotidis, was published by Beltz.
