On diversity and bilingualism - a literary-intercultural exchange

From November 18 to 22, 2024, a cultural festival will take place at the Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle in Paris, which will focus on Germany this year.
Thanks to the YUFE network (Young Universities for the Future of Europe), which links the Sorbonne with various European universities including the University of Bremen, a special bilingual writing project focusing on diversity will be launched this late summer.

In collaboration with the author Delphine de Stoutz as head of the project, four students from the Sorbonne-Nouvelle and four students from the CaNoff network (Campus Nord for France and Francophonie) – including two from Bremen, one student from Rostock and one from Flensburg – will embark on a literary, bilingual language journey with a creative writing process.

Preparations for the project will begin in September 2024 with an online meeting, followed by five sessions in which participants will develop creative texts focusing on bilingualism (German – French) and diversity.

In terms of content, the students and budding young authors will focus on personalities from France or Germany who were active in the field of diversity and have since passed away.
The aim of the writing will be to pay tribute to these figures in their contemporary context and not let them fall into oblivion.
Another focus of the project is the use of a more inclusive language, both in German and French.

The final highlights of the project will be two meetings of the entire group together with the author and facilitator of the project, Delphine de Stoutz.
The first meeting is planned to take place in Bremen during the “globale°” festival from October 31 to November 2, 2024.
At the meeting in Bremen, the first presentation of the texts created by the students in the exchange will take place in front of Bremen’s literature-loving audience.
Three weeks later, the group, together with Delphine de Stoutz, will finally present the literary results in Paris as part of the cultural festival at the Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle.

This fantastic project not only offers a platform for cultural exchange, but also the opportunity to address current issues of diversity and inclusion through literature and present them to the public.

The event is part of the LitLab of the University of Bremen and Faculty 10 and is sponsored by the University of Bremen Foundation.

We cordially invite you to the reading of student texts on November 1, 2024 at 4:00 p.m., the location will be announced here shortly.
