globale° 2025 -
Take a breath ...

Bremen | Bremerhaven | Lilienthal

For the 19th time this year, the globale° festival for cross-border literature is taking place for the 19th time this year. For the 19th time, the festival will be a stage for texts that transcend geographical, linguistic and
ideological borders. The need for these texts is not diminishing.
That is why, and yet the globale° 2025 will take place under the motto “Take a breath …”.
We take a breath in order to gather new strength, not to lose ourselves in the confusing world situation and not to resign ourselves.

That’s why we have once again put together more than twenty program items this year, which present us with new food for thought.

Bremen author David Safier will open this year’s festival, supported by actress Anna Thalbach, at Bremen City Hall. The week will then take us from Sarajevo in the 1940s to Cemile Sahin’s Kurdish wedding in Rotterdam with Marko Dinić, from Yulia Marfutova’s grandmotherly interpretations of the future in the collapsing Soviet Union to Yuko Kuhn’s German-Japanese family. With Éric Chacour, we look forward to an insight into the Canadian-Egyptian diaspora, Tommy Wieringa travels from the Netherlands with a story about wealth and National Socialist heritage and Giulia Caminito sheds light on the Italian colonies in Eritrea.

We are also particularly looking forward to the Nigerian-British writer Oyinkan Braithwaite, who will captivate us with a family story between Yoruba curses and the urge for emancipation. But there is also plenty to talk about within Germany’s borders, which is why we always (and indispensably) visit our own backyard with Asal Dardan, Mohamed Amjahid, Jakob Springfeld and other authors. In addition to readings, we are also bringing the “Lost & Found” exhibition from London
to Bremen as part of the festival and taking a look at the USA with Leibniz Prize winner Heike Paul.
We catch our breath to continue with new perspectives, to remain flexible.
We look forward to welcoming you to this year’s globale°.
