The story of two young people in Palestine. Scarred by decades of occupation and the failed peace plans of the 1990s, the two are repeatedly pushed to the margins of existence. No names, places, or dates are mentioned; only the changing of the seasons bears witness to their inner turmoil. Trees, animals, and outcasts offer comfort or inflict pain, while the protagonists’ dreams gradually fade away.
With her clear, sparse language, Adania Shibli tells of glances, gestures, and words that conceal more than they reveal. Shibli’s new novel explores alienation in a reality defined by power imbalances.

Adania Shibli
Born in 1974 in Palestine. She studied Media and Cultural Studies in Jerusalem, Berlin, and London. She is active in academic research and teaching and writes plays, short stories, essays, and novels, which have been translated into more than fifteen languages.
From 2015 to 2017, she worked as a contributing writer for *Die Zeit*. Her first novel, *Eine Nebensache* (
), which was translated into German, was awarded the LiBeratur Prize. She lives in Berlin and Jerusalem.
