LEYLA BEKTAŞ
Wie meine Familie das Sprechen lernte

Alev, whose family belongs to the Alevi religious minority, which is oppressed in Turkey, begins to ask questions: Why did her father migrate to Cologne as a left-wing activist student in the seventies? What destroyed her uncle Cem’s successful textile company in Istanbul? Alev, who lives in Cologne and has so far spent every summer with the Turkish part of her family, asks questions and collects the sound bites of her relatives, while at the same time the political situation in Turkey comes to a head following the failed coup attempt in 2016.

RASHA KHAYAT
Ich komme nicht zurück

Rasha Khayat’s protagonist Hanna is also looking for answers: How could the friendships with Zeyna and Cem, in which origin and affiliation played no role for an entire childhood in the Ruhr area, drift so far apart? Is what once unbreakable bond between the three of them still there? Or can some rifts not be overcome? Hanna sets out on a search: for Zeyna, for traces of their history, for what came between them back then.
