When aliens land in an Estonian apartment complex on the outskirts of town, they change the lives of everyone they encounter. Two friends who dream of a better life in Finland sense an opportunity when the aliens begin looking for volunteers for their research. Mariliis flees an abusive relationship and finds refuge with fitness trainer Uma—until a monstrous spider puts their budding love to the test.

Jüri also falls in love with a neighbor and tries to save his mother, Ilmi, from an expensive deal with an Austrian vacuum cleaner salesman. THE BLACK HOLE is based on two Estonian short stories by Armin Kõomägi and Andrus Kivirähk. Moonika Siimets adapts the stories for the screen, blending the fantastical with the madness of everyday life.
Her sci-fi comedy weaves quirky humor with the harsh reality of the Estonian working-class milieu. Across three episodes, she tells stories of longings—both big and small—with a touch of melancholy and a keen sense of the absurd.
