29.10. Martin Piekar, 6:00 p.m.

Marcin grows up in precarious circumstances: His mother fled Poland for Germany in the 1980s to raise him, her second child, here. She works hard as a geriatric caregiver, she drinks too much, and at some point she begins to see her son only as an adversary. Meanwhile, Marcin tries to figure out who he is and who he can be here in Germany through video games, nu metal, and poetry.  Amid this tension, the two live both with and against each other.
It is not until late in life—when the aging mother is seriously ill and Marcin is caring for her—that the family history is revealed in its entirety. A life story that oscillates between anecdote and the abyss. The war is not over. No war is ever over.
