junge globale° Among the Winners of the DKS Prize

On September 3, the young globale° was awarded one of the two third-place prizes in the DKS Award presented by the German Child Allowance Foundation in Bremen. The award recognized the writing project“The Power of Narrative—Writing Short Stories,”led by satirist and writer Osman Engin and artist and musician Manuela Weichenrieder with a group of 10th-grade students at Waller Ring High School—now in its ninth year in 2026. Since 2017, the two Bremen students* encourages them to write their own stories and make their perspectives visible.

The DKS Award recognizes initiatives that promote integration and combat the exclusion and discrimination of children and young people. The German Child Benefit Foundation was founded by parents in Bremen who are committed to greater equality of opportunity—a goal that is also central to the work of junge globale°.

Manuela Weichenrieder read one of this year’s entries at the awards ceremony, where Myriam Macé, coordinator of junge globale°, accepted the prize. In “Zelys, the City of Possibilities,” Eysa Celik tells the story of an encounter on a bus and a dream city that emerges from unlived possibilities and decisions left unmade.
